BWMS treatment procedure includes three major parts: Filtration, Seawater Electro-chlorination for disinfection, and Neutralization.
FILTRATION
During ballasting, ballast water passes through a 50um filter. Marine organisms and particles larger than 50um are removed and discharged back to the water.
ELECTRO-CHLORINATION
A small amount of filtered seawater goes into the electrolysis unit to make sodium hypochlorite. This solution is injected back into the main ballast pipeline after de-gassing treatment. The sodium hypochlorite mixes with seawater to kill marine organisms, including spores, larvae, and pathogens. This process meets disinfection standards like D-2 and others. The concentration of the active agent is monitored and controlled by the TRO unit and system control.
NEUTRALIZATION
During de-ballasting, if residual chlorine is below the IMO requirement, the Neutralization Unit doesn’t work. If the residual chlorine is above the requirement, the Neutralization Unit adds neutralizing agent. The dosing concentration is automatically monitored and controlled by the TRO Unit and System Control Unit.
