The concentration of copper is very low (less than 2 parts per billion) and is safe but effective in preventing growth.
Another set of anodes, made of aluminum or iron, creates ions that form a protective layer inside the pipes, heat exchangers, and other equipment. This layer helps protect the ship’s systems from damage.
