Magnesium Anode

A magnesium anode is used as a sacrificial anode in cathodic protection. Magnesium has the highest driving voltage of all the materials used for sacrificial anodes. Magnesium is low on the noble scale, and therefore corrodes easily. Therefore, if it is placed within a system that uses large amounts water, it attracts the corrosion away from other components.

Special Features

High driving potential

Available in numerous shapes and sizes

Suitable in fresh water and higher resistivity soil

More negative potential than aluminum or zinc Anodes

Key Features About Magnesium Anode

CUSTOMISATION

Magnesium anodes can be customised to fit almost any requirement in terms of shape, size, chemical composition, etc.

CURRENT CAPACITY

The average current capacity of magnesium anode is 1 210 A.h/kg. The average closed circuit potential is -1 570~-1 520 mV versus Cu/CuSO4 seawater.

TYPE APPROVAL

Magnesium anode meets CCS requirements.

STANDARDS

The magnesium anodes can be provided in accordance with GB∕T 17731-2015. Other standards can be met upon request.

APPLICATION

Magnesium anodes are commonly used sacrificial anodes that keep many types of industrial equipment corrosion-free. They are used in:
    Buried Pipelines
    Onshore Platforms
    Steel Structures
    Distribution Systems
    Above-ground Tanks
    Underground Tanks
    Huge Boilers

What Advantages Do Magnesium Anodes Have ?

Magnesium Anodes are very electronegative, therefore they are increasingly able to supply electrons to the more electropositive steel when in electrical contact in water, resulting in cathodic protection of the steel surface. They have very high efficiency and the highest available driving potential, which is an advantage in higher resistivity soils. Magnesium Anodes can be used for both underground and under water applications but work best in fresh water.
