The 4 most important technology about high silicon cast iron anodes

High silicon cast iron anodes were first used in the United States, initially in the laboratory, and by the early 1980s, they began to be widely used in industrial production. The 14.5% silicon iron anodes were found to corrode easily in seawater, so chromium was added to the anodes in seawater to reduce the corrosion rate of the original anodes.

INTRODUCTION OF HIGH SILICON CAST IRON ANODE

The high silicon cast iron anode is an ideal auxiliary anode for the impressed current cathodic protection system due to its low price and long service life. The production of high silicon cast iron anode follows  “High Silicon Corrosion Resistant Cast iron” and conforms to SY/T0036-2000 “Code for Design of Applied Current Cathodic Protection System for Pipelines”.

ADVANTAGES OF HIGH SILICON CAST IRON ANODE

The HSCI anode is developed to ensure the quality of cathodic protection engineering and simplify the site construction procedures, with low consumption rate, convenient and fast construction, small grounding resistance and other advantages. The original operation in the construction site is completed in the factory, which effectively ensures the construction and installation quality of the anode floor bed.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION

Applied to impressed current cathodic protection of offshore drilling platforms, underground steel pipelines, joint oil production stations, underground cables, underground storage tanks and other facilities.

After switching to this design of anodes, almost all media can adapt to the environment such as seawater, fresh water, salt water, soil and so on.

The principle of high silicon cast iron anode is that when the current flows through the anode, the material on the anode surface will be oxidized, forming a protective film, which can reduce the corrosion rate of the anode itself because of its excellent acid resistance. However, this oxide film is not alkali resistant, so when the anode is used in a dry and high sulfate environment, the anodic film on the anode surface is difficult to form, and is easily destroyed by the surrounding material.

COMPOSITION OF HIGH SILICON CAST IRON ANODE

The anode body of high silicon cast iron is mainly composed of high silicon cast iron anode, guide pipe, coke filler and steel casing, cable, etc. The anode can use ф 50 mm×1500mm or ф 75 mm×1500mm high silicon cast iron anode. After installing the guide pipe, it is fixed in the center of the steel casing with a bracket and filled with coke filler around.
